I, mother of 6, ring sling my twins (born 7-10-10) together side by side and tummy to tummy with me at least weekly when we go to Mass... When I'm out and about with my 3 youngest children (2 and under) then I put one (smaller twin) in the sling and put the other two in my infant/toddler double stroller... My friend who makes slings (slingsandmore.com) is making me a double/twin sling... I can't wait for it to arrive...

My twins were born at 35 wks and 4 days gestation and Baby B spent 10 days in the NICU... Baby A was fine...

Hi Emma what a great post. My son's first rally was in a carrier too (a woven wrap back carry LOL I still remember). I actually found some of the security a bit annoying at that rally as when we sat down to give DS his lunch (in a public square) we were asked to "move on" :-( I agree that it is great to see parents having a say. I felt very sad the day that Green's Senator Hansen-Young had her toddler kicked out of parliament when she was attending for a simple raise of hands. Any parent knows that it is possible to multitask otherwise we would not get anything done! I felt sad because if this is the kind of attitude our public institutions have to parents then how are we going to get parents, and mums with young kids especially, into parliament to be able to represent our interests.

A friend of mine gave me a silk sling for the birth of my third daughter-- her theory was "Every mama needs a silk sling!" Bronze colored dupioni silk with a brocade accent panel at the tail-- it was gorgeous with a subtle gloss and came in handy for several dressier occasions without being too outrageous for everyday use. Supportive, too and just a treat to wear.

On a different note: can you recommend any hemp silk sling makers?

My velcro-baby is now nearly two. He is happily at day care now that he has the physical and mental development so he can choose what he wants to eat and which toys to play with. Daycare are awesome - so gentle. Childcare was really a coping mechanism for me (as well as needing to return to paid work) but DS really misses the other kids if we are on holidays. He still picks up the sling and brings it to me if he wants to be carried (and his babies always go in a sling on his back so he can cook and play with cars), we still co-sleep and breastfeed when he wants to. He is VERY secure and with all the travel we are doing the sling is the favoured mode of transport.

Look after yourself - if your velcro-baby wants to be ON you 24 hrs a day every day you will need some time to look after yourself. You will then have better capacity to cope with what your child needs. Also, there is nothing better after a frustrating time than to go for a walk, enjoy the outdoors with a little chatting person on your back .... Keep up the carrying!!!!! You are doing a fabulous job.

This is so true! Aren't cranky kids are the hardest to get into a nice secure back carry without leg straightening, twisting and nearly falling out. They calm down pretty quickly though once they're up there.

It's not just babywearing, I'm a bit sensitive about my kids' behaviour reflecting my slightly non-mainstream parenting practices - as if cosleeping causes my son to climb on everything! Thanks for the perspective.
